In a world not unlike our own, Jerna Setiq has a perfect life, a beloved wife and two adored children, with his past desires and needs firmly put behind him. But when he's falsely accused of child abuse and imprisoned, he's cast into hell, with no apparent means of redemption, or regaining all that he's lost. In the most unlikely of places, in the most unpromising of circumstances, fate offers Jerna his second chance and a path to freedom. With the cruelly fascinating Tolomy, a dominant in need of education and a patient submissive, Jerna dares to satisfy the long denied passions of his dual nature - but will he risk losing what has become so dear to him, all over again? "Remastering Jerna" is a complex, erotic story of redemption, love, and the contract of trust in a relationship of control and submission

Remastering Jerna edition by Ann Somerville Literature Fiction eBooks

The author skillfully brings to life a culture which, while differing in many specifics, shares basic structures and certainly has emotional correlations with our own. Characters are varied and interesting. There’s a good exploration of consent and non consent both in BDSM and in general. Personally I don’t find BDSM appealing but the author does a good job of illustrating the main character’s POV.

One caveat (and why I’ve rated this 4 rather than 5 stars). I didn’t find the title character’s motivation in sacrifice himself for others to be adequate. Removing himself from wife and children or even risking it was so irresponsible and selfish. Even once cleared of his conviction, Jerna’s immediate response on learning how that was accomplished was to be angry at the possibility that the people he had been protecting (from their actual crimes) would be in trouble. I felt that he continued to feel his personal morality and concern for them superseded the damage he caused to his family. Had to ignore that to enjoy the story.

Still, good tale. Recommended.

Remastering Jerna edition by Ann Somerville Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I began this book at 9PM last night and I clicked my last click at 448AM and what was in between I will carry with me for the rest of my life. What an amazing tale of honor, perseverance, and sacrifice. What should come off as harsh and gritty and base here just doesn't in spite of the content. Jerna is capable of amazing love - and he felt absolutely real. In some stories the characters are larger than life - not so here. He faltered, he wept, he did not know if he could go on but he did go on. At first because of his own inner strength and then by others belief in him.

It is rare to read a book where even the side characters are so rich that they are integral to the story so as for the reader to not even *see* them as a future series character offering. It is like the best supporting cast ever - and the Oscar goes to them and Jerna and Jia and all the others for the amazing way they moved me. Absolutely one of my 10 best books of all time - and if we are talking about MM this would be in the top 5 for sure. Frankly I am still a bit speechless!

I also want to say thank you to the author - it was an absolute privilege to live in this world for a time. I have wanted to read this book forever but, until now, the ebook was not available in spite of the efforts of the author. If you are like me and were waiting pick this up, clear your calendar, and get to know Jerna. You will not regret it!
Honestly, my thoughts on this book are all over the place. Take out how devoted he is to 'the Lady' and how he can't choice between a man and woman, I'd really like it.

I almost quit reading it from the very beginning because how he was so faithful to 'the Lady'. Now, I am not a religious person. I personally feel, Jerna assuming everything happens be 'the Lady' deemed it is a cope out. I personally feel that everything that happens is because of the person, not because it was meant to happen. I'll get more into that later.

The world that Jerna lives in, is believable to me. There are cruel and unjust people in the world, who are miserable and treat others like a piece of shit. But there are also people who are kind hearted and innocent who want try to see the best in people. People who care for others and want what is best for them. Those types of people live really do exist. The prison life was horrible. I feel the author made it come across as the worse of the worse, but it was meant to come across that way. Jerna is thrown into jail because he doesn't want to bring others down with him because of an allegation brought on by a immature angry teenager. Then he isn't allowed to see his wife, kids or anyone. He loves and misses his wife, even if he isn't completely getting what he desires from her. Though, after being in prison she is his ex wife.

I understand how Jerna uses his faith to 'the Lady' to try to see a glimmer of hope. People judged him by face value. Many people found out what he was found guilty for and treated him horribly because of it. Jerna was raped, repeatedly, by the guards. I feel, he came to control himself to quickly after that first time he was raped that same night. That just isn't true. To be violated in that way, one's self worth/self identity is ripped from them. It redefines who you are. It takes more than one night to come to terms with it. That issue should have been drawn more and how he copes with it. I personally, would have thought offing myself many times if I was in his situations he was put in.

Then finally, he starts to work at a brothel. He makes good money, he gets benefits and housing. It is far better than living in the prison. Though, he has the threat of being sent back hanging over his head at all times. At the brothel, he meets many wonderful people. They get angry and make rash mistakes. Jerna tries his best to be the best and please people. Not just because that is the type of person he is, but also because he doesn't want to be sent back to the prison. Jerna's friends where all nice side characters. They were given enough face time to give them some depth, but not enough to take away from Jerna.

Jerna enjoys sexualized pain. He likes being submissive/slave. He catches the attention of Ria after a show he performs with Mistress Kare. His first encounters with Ria are not pleasant. Ria is an untrained Dom. Unbeknownst to Ria, he is not pleasing Jerna at all. He is treating him like an object not a human. Jerna becomes afraid of him. He ends up pissing of Ria and ends up in a punishment that almost kills him.

Ria is horrified when he found out about Jerna being scared of him. He confronts him and puts his anger aside and get to Jerna to explain why he was scared. Then he asked Jerna to please teach him so he won't hurt him or anyone ever again. He didn't mean to being hurting people, he was just naïve about how to be a proper Dom. As they rekindle and reshape their relationship, they fall in love.

The whole time, he keeps talking about his love and vow to his wife. He tells Ria if/when he is freed, he is going back to his wife and kids. His wife was a kind women and his kids needed him.

SPOILER I cannot stand that Jerna can't choose between Ria and his wife. I personally, just want Jerna and Ria together. I really don't like relationships like Jerna has set up. He has his wife and his lover now. It kind of pisses me off. So, he loves his wife. He loves his kids. His kids need him in their life. I just see him and wife as best friends kind of love. But having two lovers just seems to be cheating in my eyes. He needs to choose his wife or Ria. He needs to choose Ria. I feel they were made for each other. I don't see how he can't be with Ria and still not be part of his kid's life. His wife deserves to be with someone who is devoted completely to her. Though, she is a strong women to let/encourage him to be with Ria. Because she just wants him to be happy too. Him having a two lovers is irks me more than his faith. I will probably continue the series, for the only reason. To see if he will choose Ria and only him. If not, I will be very disappointed and upset. I honestly haven't read the other two books yet because I can't decide if I should or not. If Jerna doesn't solely end up with Ria then I am going to throw a fit. Of course I won't know unless I read them. SPOILER
I felt that although the story was great and I liked the creativity of the world-building Something about the lengh of each scene in the story started to feel tiring at some point. The story is long, very long, and when you sum up all the key events, you realised that not thag much happened in the last few hours of you reading the story. That is also the reason why I won't read the stories following.
I highly recommend it to erotica lovers and people who tire of obvious story-lines.
...Oh my gosh, why did I not read this earlier?

I just started reading this when I was bored because I thought it was just mostly naughty times. NOPE. This story was so incredible I read it in about two days, and I was itching to read it more when I couldn't.

There were so many amazing moments in this story I could go on forever. It was just crafted so well and thought that it made the entire story beautiful in the end.

I underestimated this story. I really did, and I wish I hadn't because this book soared into my favorites. Divine story. <3

P.S. Mighty rod? Are you kidding me? That was the only eye-roll worthy thing, haha.

P.P.S This is a series?! And considering the summaries of the next two, my heart won't be able to take it
